The way the Corps operates is under scrutiny again. The Marines are the only branch left to use Incentive Training or I.T. to correct minor deficiencies in conduct & performance. I'm unaware of when the other services took away calisthenics as a punishment in entry-level training, but can someone attest to the differences in recruits once that option was taken away from the training cadre?

Without direct, impactful and immediate ways to get your point through to Privates, you are without power as an NCO. I worked as a Phase II Coordinator for the ARMY 68K course and I would receive privates who show up with this mindset of "what are you gonna do about it? Counsel me??" In an era where it takes a counseling packet as thick as a phone book to get any type of UCMJ pushed through, counseling statements are useless and take up a lot of an NCO's time. We used to be an authority figure and now we are a measure of document control for a broken process.

i began to see this way back in 85-87, juniors replied so kick me out, make my day, then it got even worse, counseling packects, poor reviews, bad ncoers, list goes on, if you make one mistake miss one counseling, start over, i am old school, you mess up gi party then after chow you come back and do it right, all night if needed, i dont need an essay about cleaning and i dont need to do counsellings because at the end the works not done and the lesson is not learned, and your jo's get off the hook, showed up late for duty then guess what, you are now staff duty, runner, driver, failed pt test put them into progam for failures and fat bodies iaw regs of course, but do it after duty hours, maybe that will motivate those sm's, make the punishment fit the offense, as leaders sometimes we have to sacrifice our time to correct our troops, it also shows we care enough to sacrifice our own personal time to correct them. just my thoughts though.

I'm a fat body now!! but when I was in-it was a different story!! I look at the soldiers, airmen, navy, and marines today-their body mass is questionable!

I got chastised for raising my voice at my Soldiers at Annual Training for leaving one of our vehicles unsecured and it was taken by another Soldier from another unit. It was done purely out of accident, but the last words of the Commander were to lock the vehicles. It didn't happen and it was taken. After searching the base camp at 2200 hours to no avail, I gathered everyone up and voiced my displeasure and I used come colorful words and phrasing.

PO1 John Crafton - Old bulldog. And then later on, I had heard Soldiers complaining about the ass chewing I gave them

PO1 John Crafton - Apparently they were offended by some of my colorful comments

PO1 John Crafton - Reservists, like me. But I'm the only old salty enlisted dog that has spent time on AD other than training and deployment. There have been times when stupid sh*t happened, when it shouldn't have, when my old AD Combat Engineer mentality comes out.

PO1 John Crafton - It's a coin toss, really. Some appreciate and understand, others do not. Hell, my old XO (who never served a day in her life before direct commissioning) understood and was if and when I raised the voice. She would constantly tell me that when I would get irritated and quiet, she could see my jaw clenching and vein pulsating.
