My first thoughts are that it might be a variation of Zoinks that sent Shaggy and the gang running when they were scared , etc.... some of us have been zonked before ( dismissed from a specified duty or duty day), but i was curious on the origins....

SSG Warren Swan,
For me, that was a very sad day. My heart didn't want to retire, but my body said "Wow, it is about darn time."

We got Zonked on a brigade run when I stationed at ft. Drum. And we all scattered like roaches when the lights turn on. This dude is a POG

How is it that so many people have never been zonked? That's so sad. RIP fun

I think there has been too many training calendars and micromanagement of the lower leaders.

I only heard it while on Active Duty, never did I hear it in the National Guard. Perhaps most won't hear it in the Reserves or National Guard because most units don't do PT and when units do it's rare and don't want to miss the opportunity for PT. Or just the fact there is no where for NG or Reserves Soldiers to Zonk.
