We who have served since 1973 have done so because we wanted to, not because we had to. I cannot speak for others but I chose to serve my country because I love it and I believe in it. I served with 2 different generations of Americans both of which were dedicated to service of a country that gave them the right to be free at the cost of so many lives since the first shot fired at Lexington and Concord. Lets not forget those soldiers who throughout our history have given their lives so that we may live our lives the way that we choose.

It was my privilege and honor to serve. It was all I ever wanted to do and unfortunately I was unable to complete 20 years and retire. But, life goes on and I do what I can to offer advice to those who ask me about serving.

I grew up listening to WWII and Korea vets tell war stories and watching Vietnam on TV guys daily dragging hurt and dead US soldiers out of jungles (reporters Yuck). I also had two brothers go to Vietnam 1 Infantry with 1st Cav. 1 MP was in Saigon some where. I was with my father picking up my oldest brother at the airport and the only thing I recall about him visiting us on leave was punks and hippies throwing stuff at him and yelling at him. I never saw him wear his uniform again. I still joined and was never more proud than when I got that blue cord.
