I recently saw the newly published list of approved schools. I was saddened to see that Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) is no longer worth promotion points. I feel that it should be. It is a 40 hour course that is approved by the Army through the ASAP program, AR 600-85. The duty fills a vital role for the well being of the unit. I just feel that points should be awarded for it, I mean you can still get points for the fork lift operator course and the bus driver course.

This is a very sore subject for many junior leaders SGT Gathany. This list changes each year...sometimes a few times per year. I will tell you this. Stay the course. Balance the courses that provide promotion points with those "troop schools" that are necessary for unit success and mission accomplishment. While they may not be "sexy" or provide promotion points, they are necessary and they do provide additional duties and opportunities to excel on your evaluations.

SGT Gathany, if you stay in for a long period time you are going to see this list change so many times it is not even funny. I recommend investing a lot of you military education for promotion in the Corespondent Course Program and get the civilian education points with your work towards a degree. It has been of my experience that these two are sold ways of maxing the two area out.

I agree with 1SG Reed, In addition we all can't stay in the military forever, we have to leave at some point and with a degree you have more options.

I was looking at my ERB, and noticed my promotion points went down by four. According to the new list for courses listed for promotion UPL still has a "Y" meaning it still worth promotion points. Just have you S1 look into it.

SGT Quaresa, Are you sure that you were looking at the most up to date one? The one that I saw was dated 24 June.
