Is there a guideline for how many hours a soldier can be on extra duty per day (e.g. # of hours on a duty day, non-duty day, etc.)?

SSG (Join to see), I was never aware of any limitations on hours. Most places outside of war zones had normal shift hours, but special circumstances always overrode that schedule and we stayed until the mission was completed.
But that was almost five decades ago; the military has changed a lot since then.

"performed at anytime" and "any length of time" so a Leader must select wisely. ArmyFit educates us about getting appropriate sleep. Too much work over too long a time can lead to burnout.

ROFLLMFAO! Guess the Army has changed CSM. As I posted, it was stated to us & used constantly. "We can work you 20 hrs a day. We choose WHEN you get your 4 hours of sleep." Then proceeded to smoke us. 1 hour sleep, smoke us, 1 hour sleep, smoke us....I think you get the idea...FTX, 20 hours humping, 4 hrs down time w/ 2 hours of guard. So a lot of the time you were running on sheer adrenalin/willpower/drive.

Not only that, lack of sleep has been shown to be as dangerous as alcohol consumption and prolonged lack of sleep is exponentially worse because it doesn't wear off in the same fashion.

So I'm on extra duty right now. I fell asleep well driving this morning and now my car is jacked up. How can I made sure the commands is held accountable due to the sleep deprivation.
