Did we just lose the only brass rank insignia we had as Army NCOs? Is the shiny gold metal Army NCO rank now obsolete, good only for plaques?

Based on what I read in DA Pam 670-1, it appears that unless you are hospital or food service staff wearing the whites, there is no other occasion for NCO's to wear the brass rank.............that is unless I missed something.

Staff, sorry to say, I don't think you missed anything. And as for me, I am neither medical or food service. And don't remember ever seeing any medical personal working in the whites and can't remember the last time I have seen any food service personal wearing them either.

MSG (Join to see) - Last time I ever saw Food Service wear their whites was while I was at Landstuhl. And I can certainly say that none of us Medical Staff ever wore our whites......especially on the Med/Surg ward.

I guess the only decent application left, is for those lucky enough to be Cavalry, to use on their stetson.

Sorry Brother, we are now only authorized to wear the black cloth shoulder boards, with both the black long all-weather trench-coat and my favorite, the short light weight black jacket. It's a shame, I use to really like how the shiny gold NCO rank looked on the light weight black jacket. Thanks SMA,
