Yanno I've met many people who have no intention of using their GI Bill... and it flabbergasts me completely. I mean it's SUCH a great program to let go to waste!

PO1 Phil Eldridge - I agree with you 100%. We earned to have a program like the GI-Bill. I think the problem comes down to once we get out of active duty, we tend to miss the regimented lifestyle that we have been so used to. We need to do a better job helping veterans transition back into society where they still have a sense of something they are working towards like higher education. It is frustrating when we hear about employers saying how vet friendly they are but when they see that all one has is a high school or GED, it is hard for the employer to hire us. There are so many schools that will take all of our military training and transfer them to credits. The bottom line is, we are getting paid to get a degree and yet veterans are not taking full advantage of it. I work as the student worker for Penn State Abington, and when veterans come in to figure out what they need to submit to me, I tell them all the different options and paths that they could potentially go down in order to mazimize the 36 months they have for their Post 9/11 GI-Bill. I would tell them to keep focused and disciplined as you were taught in the military and you could walk away with a Bachelors within 12-15 months.
