To be honest, family. I had a feeling of worthlessness when I first retired.. I felt as if my identity was taken, much like in Superman II, when Clark Kent gave up his superpower. Family and their understanding helped me through it. I miss the Military, I miss the friendships the feeling of brotherhood, but realized I really never lost it, even if I am no longer in uniform, my brothers and sisters are still there!

remember when I say family, it is not only immediate family, but brothers and sisters in arms. They are always there for you when you need them!

Thanks for the response CSM, the support of family can be a powerful thing for sure. I like the positive perspective with which you handled the missing of those you were/are close to after separation. Like the old adage goes, "a positive frame of mind is half the battle"..
