I was watching the opening ceremony of the French Open tennis tournament this morning and during the ceremony they conducted a moment of silence to honor the 70th anniversary of D-Day/Normandy. The French Open NBC commentator may want to take a history lesson or two, because he twice stated that the moment of silence was for the 70th anniversary of D-Day/Normandy in WWI. Seriously dude? You just displayed your ignorance to millions, in France!
I am extremely disheartened at the lack of knowledge people have regarding world history, and disgusted that they chose to display their stupidity for all to see.

Many are ignorant and do not realize the importance of this battle or the timeline associated with it for that fact....we are fortunate that we do have a National WW II museum (in New Orleans). If you are ever in the New Orleans area it is well worth the visit!

Thanks CSM Uhlig! I just viewed the website and was saddened to read that we are losing 550 WWII vets per day, and only 1.2 million are left. As a nurse, I love taking care of these heroes. When I do, I make it a point to sit down, talk with them, and listen to their stories. I learn more from them than I have from any history book!

What do you expect from a TV talking head sportscaster? This is a guy who thinks sports are really, really important in the grand scheme.

This sounds like someone simply pulling an "oops" though they should have picked up on after the first time.
There are too many out there that have lost sight of history - take our own government officials. They've learned nothing from Vietnam because, well, Iraq. The British failed in Afghanistan, the Russians failed in Afghanistan. are we doing any better?
"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

Sir, you know the quote at the end is factually incorrect. It was actually the Vietnamese who bombed Pearl Harbor which was the catalyst to the U.S. entering the Civil War.
