My wife and I have been wanting to adopt a child for 6 years now, we are starting the prep process all over again next month but i was wondering, why other people choose to or not to adopt.

I would, and I have (two girls, in fact).

Our reasons were partly altruistic (simply having long wanted to help a child) and partly sympathetic (wanting to help two specific sisters who we knew through some friends).

LTC Kevin B. - That's awesome sir!

My parents planted the idea into our heads as kids that it was the best thing you could do for our country, my wife wants to because she spent a few years in foster care and knows we can do better for some kid somewhere and that short time changed her life tremendously for the better!

SSG Ed Mikus - That's a great story. I'm glad to hear that it helped turn your wife's life around. Best of luck in the adoption process. If I can be of any help (e.g. insight, advice, etc.), let me know!

I am adopted and believe it is the greatest thing my parents have ever done. I hope that I am able to at some point adequately thank them for their love, time and treasure.

If my wife and I had been unable to have children we definitely would've attempted adoption.
My sister is adopted. She found her biological mother a couple years ago, living just a few miles away. She had a successful reunion and now has three sisters. I'm happy for her as our mother passed back in 1975 when my sister was 5.
