I think to some extent because the politicians know people will believe the celebrity.

Ratings. Maj John Bell. Better ratings for those on both sides of the camera. It's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

I don't listen to celebrities when they are talking politics. Clint was funny with his empty chair routine but still just an entertainer. I guess Congress figures that they need some entertainment. And that they deserve to have it up front and personal.

Maj John Bell
Mr. Eastwood was not speaking before the Congress. He was speaking at the GOP convention.
Mr Colbert testified IN CHARACTER about migrant workers and agricultural policy. Mr. Colbert is not a subject matter expert on migrant workers or agricultural policy. He read a script prepared by someone else and then ad libbed his responses to questions. It is the place of the people's business, not a comedy theater (I know there are jokes coming about that). Every single member of that sub-committee should have walked out.
It was offensive. Rep John Conyers (D-MI) was right to ask him to leave. It was offensive when he mumbled into the microphone "No hablo ingles" in response to Rep Conyers request. It wrong for Rep Conyers rescind his objection after the Chairwoman's response. It was also wrong for him to dismiss Rep King's (R-NY) serious question with a gay joke. How was it a good job? Are there no subject matter experts who could have provided more useful information and serious responses to serious questions? It was disgraceful and embarrassing.
