Is Germany abolishing itself through Mass Immigration? Germany has about 80 million people. By 2020 the demographics could change to a point were Muslims are a large voting block. If so, what would that mean for Jewish, Woman and LGBT rights? Will this impact trade and policy toward the Middle East or Russia. If Germany or Europe erupts into violence, what should our reaction be?

Yes, there is still value to NATO. As a counterbalance to Russia, as a ready source of coalition (even though I recognize how weak those coalitions often are), and as a mechanism of military standardization (NATO STANAGs). We just may too big a crutch for them...and they've taken advantage of our generosity...they do need to pony up.

Sir, great point. I agree that NATO is still relevant. But Euro nations need to start carrying their weight. I find it amusing when people point to Euro nations and say that if they an afford great social benefits and programming, why can't we? I say to them, they can afford social programming because we are covering their defense costs for them. YOu start making those nations start footing their own defense budgets, I guarantee you some of their liberal social welfare programming will dry up....

Very true. Here's a Churchill rip-off: "Never in the field of human laziness was so much owed by so many (Europeans) to so many (Americans)". And the French never thank me for their 30-hour work week when I visit. Just rude of them.

Well actually if you think paying for their defense benefits us because it allows us to operate over there and act as a police force. If Germany paid for their own stuff then they wouldn't need US bases over there.

Germany and many other European countries have done it to themselves. They are too busy being politically correct to see the dangers until after the horse is out of the barn. A civil war in Europe is not in NATO mandate, but neither was Bosnia, Libya. NATO has been struggling for something to do, a purpose, but with Russia making noise it may find a purpose sooner than later. I fully agree with TSgt David L., the UN is about as worthless as tits on a boar hog! Very evident in Bosnia, Rwanda and any other place where a decision needs to be made. The UN will live it's military commanders with tied hands. At least NATO supports the Commanders.
I feel NATO is still worth supporting but for the right reasons - beware of mission creep.
