I Facetime with my wife and son while away from home. Anyone else use it? On deployment / TDY / business trips?
My son, like most curious kids, wants to touch the bright screen, especially the bright red END CALL button. While Apple doesn't have a specific screen lock for Facetime, there is a way to disable touch on certain areas of the screen that will prevent the child from ending the call.
It's called Guided Access.
1. Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Guided Access.
2. Turn it on, set a passcode and turn on Accessibility Shortcut.
3. When you're in Facetime (or any app in which you want to disable part of the touch screen) triple-click the home button. If you're home button doesn't work, just get it fixed for $99 (after market special).
4. The iOS device (iPhone, iPad, etc) will bring up a screen shot of the current app display. One the screen shot, simple circle the area of the screen you want to disable. This will bring up a shaded are that will cover the END CALL button, among other buttons.
5. Triple-click the home button to exit GUIDED ACCESS mode.
Should do it.
