Enlisted or Officer, have you ever worked for someone and then been promoted faster and had them wind up working for you? If so, did it cause issues? I've had it happen twice. The NCO who was my PSG when I was an E5 wound up being my PSG when I was a PL. And my PL when I was 2LT assistant PL wound up being my XO when I was Company Commander.

In the early 60s I saw a Major get reduced to A2C. He was in a small office and went from OIC to lowest rank in the office. THEN the action causing the reduction was reversed and he once again became a major and OIC.

It pays to respect everyone because one never know what tomorrow will bring.

The is a line form a song - "be nice to the little guy on your way up because you'll meet him on your way down."

Happens on the medical side all the time where O-6 Docs work for O-4 OICs at remote clinics. There's a pretty good shopping list turf definitions. Still there's always a wail when there's a surprise pee patrol party.

Also see it when an ENL goes commissioned.

My boss in Germany was a GS-13 in the G6 shop when I arrived as a CPT. About 1 year in, there was a reorganization and I was put in charge of the section with him as the deputy. No issues as the CG wanted green suitors as the OICs and CIVs as the deputies.
