I am considering trying out for this opportunity my only problem is that I have gone to SFAS and made it to the end but was not selected. Does my prior selection tryout effect this one?

It all depends on your reason for previous disqualification. If it's integrity or attitude, you would have received an "NTR" (Never To Return). As this was not the case, people are fully eligible to return to SFAS a second time. If you made it through the end of the course last time, if anything that should give you a leg up. More might be expected of you, but either way, SFAS is always about giving your 100%.

Apologize for the misleading question this is my first post and I think the SMU portion was cut off somehow. I am also still considering attending SFAS again this may so It was still very relevant information for me thank you.

SSG (Join to see) - If they accept you to the selection course, then they will evaluate you based on your performance at the selection course. The SMU assessment course is as professional and comprehensive as it gets. You are not giving them enough credit if you think they make mistakes in who they invite to try out. They don't want to waste their time any more than you want to waste your time.

Just be honest with everything upfront and do your best. They will assess you based on who you are today, not based on decisions of others.

PVT James Strait - I'm not even sure what "Training Group" is. The way it works now is that people go straight to SFAS unless they are an 18X and then there is an additional prep course prior to SFAS.

There is an administrative review to select who gets to go to SFAS, in addition to a physical and PT test.

PVT James Strait - Current candidates will go through anywhere from 1-2 years of nearly continuous evaluation and training prior to earning the Green Beret. Common reasons for failure include physical, decision making, and academic.

No you can go back. There should be no look back at previous attempts. I know of guys that went back more than once and finally got selected.

You know it's available to you since your in the guard right? The only thing is I believe the closest SF guard unit is in Alabama.

You can do it but the major drawback to NG units is that normally their unit has to pay for the course and that can be a killer. Find an SF unit in your area and speak with the Admin folks on how you could possible transfer to their unit and then occupy a slot. Many of the SF guard units can give you the appropriate details on the process. IT is complicated if you are not SF qualified already.
