"Soldiers who have a texture of hair that does not part naturally may cut a part into the hair." How do you fellow leaders interpret this?

As far as I am concerned, If their hair cut looks professional, then the cut part should be fine. If it is faddish, then provide the soldier with the reasoning and the difference between the two styles and have him get it fixed to meet the standard.

But we black soldiers get called out for having waves as a “fadish” cut when almost every soldier with no. Textured hair has a part and comb over so which one is actually fadish and which one is natural?

SGT Todd, while this post is almost six years old, I would recommend as a leader it is always important for you to read and understand published regulations, guidance, and manuals. The Army always changes and we as leaders improve the organization while ensuring we still enforce regulations which enforce standards and discipline. FYSA. The latest copy of published army regulation, directives etc can be found on army pubs. Here is AR 670-1:

CPT (Join to see) I have read it and I know it’s been updated but I’m still saying that a lot of leaders who are not African-American or who do not have textured hair still don’t know about that regulation

I take it as if you have a certain type of hair that prevents you from parting your hair naturally then a straight line can be cut in the area where the natural part would be. Or does it mean everyone can cut a line where the part should be?
