I took a retirement last August and have decided that I miss the time I had in uniform. Any advice on how to shorten the process would be appreciated.

To my knowledge you just need to contact a Victor and he will give you some options. I retired August 1st 2015 and by October I had a retentions NCO (victor) calling me about possible options if I wanted to come back.

SGT Edward Wilcox The Above statement by SSG (Join to see) is correct contact your nearest 79V Career Counselor and they can assist you. If you do not have contact information for one, sent me a message and let me know what city and state you live in and I can get you contact information to the nearest counselor to assist you. It is not a quick process but is possible. Probably going to take a couple/few months to complete.

It happens fairly often, actually. As stated elsewhere, you need to see a Career Counselor - most Reserve Centers have them) to get the ball rolling.

If you transitioned to the retired reserve because you hit your mandatory retirement date (MRD) there would probably need to be a legislative change to call you back to active status SGT Edward Wilcox. The exceptions would be if their was a national Mobilization similar to the WWII call up or if you had a skill that is in short supply and high demand.
