Question for the reserve leaders out there. Do you think it appropriate to track down non participant Soldiers utilizing social media such as Facebook rather than by utilizing telephone email attempts, or oven old fashioned house visit?

I think social media should be used in conjunction with other efforts such as telephone, email, and banging on the door.

A 1SG once relayed a story about a General that found a non-parcipitant through social media and talked to the soldier within about 3 hours of searching. This was after the subordinate command chain claimed that they had exhausted all their efforts to find the soldier.

Facebook is far more effective at finding Soldiers, it's also easier.

That was my story. The commander and First Sergeant got fired for it, too.

Interesting that you are CA. The 1SG I heard the story from was 1SG of a Reserve Chemical Co in JBLM and is a CA soldier himself. He is a UA for one of the CA BNs out here. Do you know (I think it's Cain) Profitt?

1SG (Join to see) - I knew a MAJ Profitt, but not an E-8 by that name.

I use Facebook as a secondary precaution. The best part about using it is they can't say that they didn't get it, because it has all those nice little check marks, and shows you is and when it was read.

Staying in touch all along is a good preventative.

You do what you have to do. many of these low-life drill skippers won't answer the phone or email and many of them give you a bogus, or outdated, home address. If you can find them on FB, go for it

SFC (Join to see) - don't forget to demote before you send them packing. I got an E-8 SMSgt to come back to drills after I threaten to have him busted (I could not have done it personally but the paperwork was ready to be signed) he showed up fo the next drill pouting, as the First Sergeant I had a commander more than willing to sign the paperwork. I guess he didn't want to call our bluff!

Oh yeah darn right I'd you whatever means necessary.
