This is brand new stand-up unit here in Wyoming. The most info I can gather is a unit in Alaska with the same identity. Best I can gather is its been moved. I belong to the new unit as of 01MAR2016. My Mos for the new unit is 11B2G. I am excited for this new opportunity. However, this state has never had a direct combat arms unit outside of MLRS artillery. Nobody really knows much. And Google does not show much except that we will fall under the Alaska ARNG parent unit. Anything at all that anyone knows is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried connecting with members of the unit on their RallyPoint unit page? Looks like the Company has 3 listed: https://www.rallypoint.com/units/c-co-c-company-1st-battalion-297th-infantry-regiment-kotzbue-ak/followers

I am the former Commander of 1/297th IN (SCT), AKARNG Headquartered in Nome, AK. It was part of the Cold War initiated Alaska Scout Battalions. With force structure changes since 9-11, combat deployments and all, the State has gone through several reorganizations with the most current creating the new version of a Infantry Battalion, primarily based in Alaska, with one company based in your state, which you will now be part of, and your shoulder patch will be of the battalion. You and your fellow unit members will get further information on all this soon, and a visit from your new BC and CSM soon as well I expect. For unit heritage, there is a lot online via google.

Outstanding. Thank you sir. I truly look forward to the new experience. I have looked online and have seen some of the history. I'm sure it does little justice as none of it entails the participation in theaters of conflict. I hope to do them honor with my knowledge, experience, and ability to learn. Again, thank you Sir.
