I've considered cutting the cord on my home phone several times, but I still have it. Primarily because my cable package would be more expensive with out it (all other things being equal).

I would also see my cable bill go down if I added a land line. However, the physical line was cut several years ago when a contractor was putting in my sprinkler system. As I didn't have a land line at the time, and it turned out that neither of my neighbors did either (took a while to validate that it was MY land line), I decided no harm, no foul and declined his offer to get the line re-run. Doing that now would probably cancel out the savings.

The only calls we got on our land line were telemarketers and surveyors even though we had repeatedly registered on the do not call list. We ditched the land line six years ago and have not missed it one bit, particularly not the $49.00 per month charge.

I should have said survey takers rather than surveyors as no one was calling us for a construction survey.

I would understand keeping your land line if you are living in a remote (rural) area with either spotty or no cellular coverage. Nowadays, most folks live in populated areas with (depending on your carrier) ample cellular coverage. People have access to the Internet and can use Skype or another service similar to Skype. As for for me, I tend to travel a lot, so it isn't cost effective to keep a land line.
I've cut the cord since 2008.
