If I become a warrant officer as long as I don't outrank my chief I know I can stay as a technician but if I go lieutenant I outrank him can I lose my job as a technician?

I don't think that matters in the reserves, not sure about the guard. I was a SSG but one of the miltechs in an underlying unit was actually an LTC when I was in.

Rank inversion pertains to rating schemes. If you outrank your civilian boss on the military side, a rank inversion situation exists. Normally, there will be a command policy on this.
In my command, the civilian boss reverts to a letter of input with the next level supervisor rating both to eliminate perceptions of favorable treatment (or retaliation).

Yes if u can't find a position somewhere else you will lose your job. Now maybe they can have u report to someone else. In my 13 years experience as a tech you lose your job.
