Capt Rankin, it's good to hear that you're interested in the RAS/PAS program, my apologies for the delayed response, I'll address a few basics on the USAF IAS program, and if you have any items you'd like to discuss personally, please feel free to send a direct message at any time. First, the USAF International Affairs Specialist (IAS) program is the Air Force equivalent of the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) in other military service branches; IAS is divided into the Regional Affairs Strategist (RAS) and Political-Military Affairs Strategist (PAS), RAS officers are typically those with foreign language experience/expertise, PAS officers are gained for a breadth of experience and are typically a bit further along in their careers than their RAS counterparts. Here's a link to the official SAF/IA website with recent information on the program: http://www.safia.hq.af.mil/internationalaffairsspecialist/
I hope that this information is helpful, if you have any questions that would be helpful for the group, please post for discussion. Thanks for posting the topic thread, this can definitely come in handy for folks seeking opportunities in the program!

It is offered in the US Army, it is the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) program, the Navy also has a FAO program, and I believe the old Marine FAO program still exists although has been renamed/designated as the International Affairs Officer program.

Do they accept enlisted or would I have to be commissioned or warrant?

The FAO/International Affairs programs across the services are primarily commissioned as far as I am aware, there could potentially be some opportunities in support of FAO/IA missions... any senior enlisted perspective is welcomed in this area, do we have anyone out there who can offer some perspective/insight on similar or supporting enlisted opportunities throughout the military service branches?

The closest thing for the Army Enlisted side of the house is Attaché NCO. SQI "7". It is a Special Duty Assignment and you will need a release from your Branch. I am currently serving at US Embassy La Paz, Bolivia.
