Is there a way to obtain additional health insurance while in the military?

Please bear with me, as I attempt to coherently phrase my question. I get it that almost everyone gripes about the military health care system. I am one of those gripers. My question is: Is there a way to obtain additional health insurance while in the military. I think I'd want a whole new policy separate from TRICARE. I would also be interested if there was some type of add on, as well. I'm realizing that I'm starting to spend quite a bit out of pocket to help get the relief I need. I've always been covered by parents or employers, so I really do not know how health insurance works. Any helpful insight (or even an explanation of how it works) will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

SFC B,
That is the problem I'm having. I can't just call and make an appointment. Aside from going to the emergency room, sick call is the only option. We can't just make an appointment. After the treatment I received when I went (not to mention being talked about badly by the medics, given the wrong prescription, and told by the PA she was confused, I realized that I need actual care. True, we supposedly have the best healthcare, but it varies by location. Here it is a joke that I'm afraid will cause more harm.

SFC Smith,
How else can I get a referral to a chiropractor? I tried to ask about it and was given a swift "no". I know everyone doesn't agree with it, but has been the most helpful for me. I've always had to pay, because it is not in their protocol to refer us. The sad thing is they have a chiropractic department at the hospital on post... I'm just unable to be utilize it. How is that right?

SGT Mickles, I'm sorry I'm just having a hard time understanding why you are being denied the right to make an appt? Here is the link to the hospital at Fort Benning and the appt line is 706-544-CARE (2273).

Thank you SFB B. Worst case scenario, I can try it. However, we have to go through our unit's TMC as the hospital is for referrals and the ER. The worst thing they can say is no. Our clinic does not take appointments.
I just got here and am having as hard of a time as you are trying to make sense of it all. I've never been in a place that they do it like this before.
