The best way is to go to your local aviation unit and seek an office call with a Aviation CW5. They will be able to explain the process and if they are willing to provide you with a LOR it is a great aid towards your selection.

I have wrote many LORs in my day, most of the posts are spot on. First the Army recruiting website will have all of the instructions and forms for the packet. Second take the SIFT test, it used to be the FAST at the Edctr and ensure that you have a GT score above 110. That is a minimum, higher is better. Then go to your medical section and get the instructions for a Class 1A flight physical and take it. If you can't get through these hoops you will not qualify. Then you can start on the rest of the packet. When someone comes to me I am very excited to help, as are most senior warrant officers. I will speak with you, and give you some guidance but I will not interview you until your packet is complete awaiting my letter. The reason is, I do not know you, your commander does, so I want to see your Co and Bn Cdr's LORs. Additionally, I will look at the entire packet and provide mentorship

I would also recommend that you bring a copy of your SIF score. It is good to show that you are ready for good advice and packet polishing.

Having a couple Warrant Officers pre-screen your packet is great advice.

CW4 (Join to see) - Hello. Thank you for the advice. I just took me SIFT test and didn't get the score I wanted even with the weeks of preparation/study I did. I DID pass, but now I know that without a doubt I am going to have to receive some very good LOR's. I am a mechanic out here at 7th group -- have been attached to two teams as their lead mechanic and I am in dire need of some LOR's from a CW4 and CW5. I figured I would go online and see if I can join any forums to have anyone write me one. Would this be something you are willing to do if I send you my records and we can talk through email/phone? I noticed you said you were very excited to help so I figured I would start here. Thank you in advance. Please feel free to email me at [login to see] .

Most important thing is to be doing a good job... what ever that job is now... so that your chain of command sees you as a person with potential for more responsibility... the primary place LOR come from is the chain of command... if I saw a packet that didn't have a letter or two from the chain of command, I would be asking "Why not?"

The issue with that is that you need to be already in for that. I don't know how you get the LOR's for a flight packet as a young person who probably doesn't know the right people on the inside.
