What are the most significant changes the military branches need to make in this decade?

Tell us about your particular branch and what they need to do to be come better or change or what they need to keep doing?

The AF needs to change its approach to providing component C2 to the JFC. Every JAOC but one is so undermanned it could not support phase 2 ops without significant backfill of personnel. We need to move to a small forward ops division with large distributed reach-back capabilities for intel, strat, plans, & mobility that can "focus" limited personnel at any theater depending on priority. We no longer need physical presence to do most CFACC functions.

The Navy (and all branches in general) need to pick a uniform and stick with it. Stop changing uniforms every few years, it sometimes get REALLY expensive on the Sailor. And leaders, please don't give me that canned BS response of "That's what your uniform allowance is for..." because we all know it doesn't nearly cover everything we need 100%.

PO1 John Miller I agree and disagree - the changes I believe were necessary based on the threat and location over time, but I agree not as often would have been nice. I think it's good to modernize as warfare changes over time!

But blue camouflage for the Navy's working uniform? Seriously??? A lot of times these new Navy uniforms, once they hit the fleet, have proven to be inefficient, non flame retardant, and in some cases unable to be washed in ship's laundry (like the Navy PT uniform).

The military must become organized to fight a insurgency conflict in two locations, while maintaining the ability to deploy a significant heavy combat force to a theater. Our ability to reach any point on this globe with sufficient firepower to prevent anything like Blackhawk down or Benghazi happening again must be demonstrated and maintained. All personnel, in all MOS's must meet the exact same physical and mental standards for every job. No more bickering about genitalia, just a plain standard that is requirement to accomplish the job. The sillyness about naming convention for jobs must cease, after we have all of the bad guys put down, let's argue about our names and uniforms. We must elect a president that will let the Joint Chiefs run the show, and those selected to the JCS should pay heed to the Chief's of Staff of each branch. Let professionals run the services for a change - I know never going to happen.....yes it could. The nation should consider returning to a universal draft of young men and women into the services, giving each and every young person not disqualified by mental or physical shortcomings the opportunity to contribute to this great nation for 2 years. No deferments, no exceptions - except mental or physical - period. Volunteers signing up for 4 or more years get first shot at highly technical positions, those who complete they're two years as a inductee and desire to stay have first choice on openings in professional fields. America gets a young people that are riflemen, the services get a literal cross section of the nation. Make minimum combat tours 1 year in length and deploy by unit...the whole 1st Infantry 2nd Bde goals as does the mess and medical personnel associated with it. And for God sakes AF keep the A10 until you got something that can bring that much pain and stay in the game.......Warthogs forever!!!!!
