Why is Defense Travel System (DTS) so difficult to use?

I am short notice on orders and I am trying to get an authorization for travel on orders... If it's not one thing then its another. The combination of DTS and GOV CC are maddening!

Because it was made to make it easier on those who have to administer the program, not the traveller.

I agree. I never use my Gov Card. I know you are suppose to use but I would rather use cash and wait to get paid back. So many times if you are late making a payment you will get in trouble. If I am able to pay for everything and not really miss the money I would do that instead of worrying about carrying a debt.

I am a DTS approver. If you do your voucher, and have all the substantiating documents, you will get paid quickly. Missing docs could mean ping pong back and forth. Upload receipts for EVERYTHING and you shouldn't have an issue.

MSG, my question is why is it that I live 152 miles away from my unit but when I go to calculate the mileage, DTS says I live 108 miles away. No road goes in a straight line and that 152 miles is the fastest route for me. I'm genuinely curious why it works that way.

Try doing a Google search and see what it says. It may be taking a different route.

I sent my stuff in in May. Still waiting for a certain DoD agency to pay me back.....
