When I arrived back in the late 80's, when you get off the plane there should be (was in 1988) a military manned customs area. After customs you will be directed to a bus that takes you from the airport to the in country processing station that's located at Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul. From there you usually stay about a day (half day of films and training) then you'll receive your final orders. When I was there 2ID got preference on closing open requisitions for personnel, then 8th Army got the rest, I was redirected down to 188th MP company on Camp Walker. Train is the primary mode of transportation between Seoul and the rest of the country, while 2ID picks up their personnel directly if you retain your orders to Camp Walker, you'll need to be transported to the Seoul train station. Pack as light as you can (fewest bags as possible) because the train only stops for about 5 minutes in Taegu, there are two train stations in Taegu, Taegu and Dongdaegu (East Taegu), you'll need to carry all your things with you when you get off. Your unit should be on the ramp waiting for you to get off the train and help you with your bags. From the train station it's about a 45 minute drive to Camp Walker. Taegu (or Deagu) was the third largest city in South Korea, lots of people and large crowds. In Taegu there are (were) three army bases, Camp Walker, Camp Henry and Camp George, Camp George was accompanied housing for everyone on accompanied tours, there is a military bus that runs between all three camps.
Depending on where you are located on the camp, everything is about a 5 minute walk, PX, Gym and Rec Center are all close by the barracks.
Camp Walker is at the base of Apsan Park, when I was there it wasn't uncommon to do training on the outskirts of the park, it was fun while I was there, so fun that I spent about 4 years in country. Hope this helps you out, some of my Information may be outdated, it's been a long time since I was there. I entered country in 1988 and left in 1992
