What are the lessons learned out there for transitioning from command and direct leadership to staff? How about managing a staff section, comprised of active/AGR and Reserve Soldiers at a significant distance? Email, weekly video conferences, etc?

As of 1530 yesterday, I am a former BN CDR.
A much more emotional event than I had expected.
I think it's the only time I've gotten choked up giving a speech.
It was a good run and I am going to miss them. It feels really odd not being at the unit today.

Next monday, my orders to my new staff position - and groovy commute - are in effect.

And a special shout out to the JBLM weather gods! And to Maker's Mark.

Congrats sir. Surviving any level of command is a success. That being said. Great question. Right now I am just learning the roles I will have to do. Allowing myself to be a Indian but a chief when needed as I can see some weaknesses in my team/section.
