Should Southern Comfort have sent this whiskey to WWII pilot long ago?

Retired Col. Tom Barr told the crew of the this B-17 they would sure get a case of liquor if they named their B-17 bomber "Soouthern Comfort." On Wednesday, the distiller is coming through for Barr with a ceremony to honor him at the National Museum of World War II Aviation in Coloraod Springs.

Well, yes. After they had accomplished their mission, and weren't involved in combat anymore....or during their off hours. (I have never seen combat; so I don' t know what combat is like.)
And, it kind of doesn't make sense to me; because there was no real effort, work involved- to earn this case of liquor.
