1) Huge body of water between Great Britain and the Americas. We were self sustaining, and logistically capable... whereas they lacked that advantage
2) Backing of the French who hated them enough to Like us.
3) Defenders Advantage, combined with "Insurgency" Model. Once we were rooted it, there really was no way to win. It was just a matter of time. America, despite being called a Revolution was an Insurgency. A just one sure, but that doesn't change the concept that we toppled the "existing government" and replaced it.

MAJ Ken Landgren - Absolutely, not mutually exclusive. I just wanted to highlight the Insurgency portion.

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS Gah, you beat me to the geography and great power politics. I had to settle for breaking down the insurgency.
The revolution occurred before during and after the insurgency and the hot war. The revolution was the radical change in method of governance.

I would suggest differently, it was in fact a revolution given a tyrannical king had soldiers do his bidding. Beatings, homes destroyed, public lashings and often times food and supplies stolen by the RedCoats. So under what conditions would you revolt? These people came here to start a new life not become a subset colony by a brutal king and be taxed to death. I would read deeper into this before you decide.

Insurgency - the quality or state of being insurgent; specifically : a condition of revolt against a government that is less than an organized revolution and that is not recognized as belligerency

3% trigger pulling patriots supported and harbored by 10% active patriots sympathizers making the neutral 40% convinced that the Tory 10% and 3% couldn't pull it off even with the Brit Regulars and mercenaries and that neutrals would be better off joining the "meh, independence" 17% instead of the 'meh loyalist' 17%.

People took a stand for what they believed in and didn't run away. Sometime I wonder how true that would be today.

It was quite remarkable as the English was the dominant super power, and our soldiers were ill paid, supplied, fed, 1/3 had no shoes for the winter, and many had to return home for the harvests.

1SG (Join to see) If it were up to the Americans of today we would be kissing the Queens ass with a Cockney accent. Too much "Me" and not enough "Us" in this country now.
