An officer just told me he was selected for CPT. He's been in over two years and still hasn't been to BOLC due to flags for failed APFT. Yet he's getting promoted? Huh?

Not the case. With him failing a APFT there is no way he would be promoted. He should be flagged for the failure and that means no favorable actions. If he is saying that he is making some stuff up or he is confused. I have seen a 1LT at my BOLC but it is extremely frowned upon. He was a National Guard Officer so I am not sure if he was taken care of. But we had a guy in our state that didn't pass IBOLC and our CoC would not promote him. He may think he is Promotable for being a 1LT for 2 years but there is no way he would do that due to his lack of PME.

Yes, he is on the CPT list but has never been to BOLC. I'm hoping there is something going on behind the scenes with orders or whatever because it is disheartening. I don't want to mind people's business but there are standards and it devalues what it means to be selected for CPT. I know mistakes are made but leadership announced in a group meeting that you can get promoted even before BOLC and it's confusing. I just had to ask because I feel like I'm crazy questioning this madness.

How do you not pass IBOLC?? Yes its a demanding course but...jeez. A buddy of mine did struggle with the Land-Nav Test but other than that the only people who I've ever heard of getting the boot did something stupid...DUI / got arrested ect...

I did not realize that being a "1LT at BOLC" was so frowned upon. Most but not all NG folks that are in that spot are there because they either didn't advocate enough for their career or their state OPM screwed them big time.

I have knew one that failed twice and another that passed on his second try. In both cases the state wouldn't promote them until they were MOSQ. That is the factor that should determine their promotion.

Thank you. Our chief nurse announced in a meeting this weekend to all the nurses and PAs that you can get promoted even before BOLC and I was like, "wait, what?" so I wrote my commander. I understand that this might be out of my lane but I'm at the point where it absolutely would kill morale to see someone who can't pass PT, isn't even a deployable officer yet, get promoted when the rest of us are working hard to meet standards and contribute. It just totally undermines what it means to be a CPT.
