I was a vehicle mechanic (63B) and then reenlisted as a fuel and repairer (63G). In 1981 I went to Ft Polk and was assigned to the 539th Maintenance Co.We supposed to be able repair everything from tents, tanks to weapons. My job along with some others had been contracted out to civilians. So I have been wondering if the mission for maintenance companies has changed any. Thanks for any thoughts or information.

I have been in two maintenance companies. The 263rd MC in Fort Hood (now deactivated) from July 08-Jan 11 and the 61st MC in Camp Stanley Korea from feb 11-feb 12. The units had Auto Platoons for all 30 level maintenance on vehicles, GSE Platoons for generators, ACs, Heaters, pumps etc., and an S&R section for small repairs of starters alternators and the recovery section. The 263rd also had a TMDE shop that supported all of Fort Hoods calibration.

I did a brief search on current Army maintenance documents that you can access without AKO access SPC Thomas Moore. I have posted a link to Soldiers’ Guide for Field
Maintenance Operations dated 2013. I hope this helps.
