Wartime National Anthem? What if we saved the major key for peacetime and played the minor version during war?

SGT Townsel, this is very interesting, although I've not heard or considered this before, it would be an excellent way and visible (audible) reminder of a nation at war. Interesting post and idea, thanks for sharing!

That is exactly the word I was thinking, I think that most accurately describes it, and perhaps most appropriate for a wartime anthem, very thought provoking prospect...

Yes, Ronnie James... we'll just go ahead and make the call on this, from here forward it will be known as the officially unofficial version, excellent choice! :)

Couple thoughts: By definition of "war" we would have never played the Minor version since WWII. Next I don't think Rosanne Barr is versatile enough to sing both versions. Americans are easily confused so I suggest the KISS principle. Keep it simple stupid! The minor version is very interesting though and good idea - Mark.

That...was astounding. Excellent idea. I know it might help weed out those performers who can't even remember the words or try to 'dress it up'. I doubt they could manage the complexity of singing it in a minor key.
I know it's snarky, but it's just a pet peeve of mine.
