I have volunteered for something for as long as I can remember. I think we are starting to lose this sense of community where help come from each other vs some "HUGE IDEA" that ends up not working because it gets bogged down in minutia and legalese. I propose we each think of one small thing we can do to make our immediate community stronger. Drop some groceries off, mail a letter, visit the elderly person who seems to never have anyone come by. It doesn't have to be big but if we think of each act as a penny and everyone donates just one, I see a mountain of change. I found this on my feed and I think it's a great place to start. Forget about how much it's going to add to your performance report and think about how much it will contribute to the person you want to be.

Started as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT in 1970... and been doing it (volunteering for one thing or another ever since)... Ambulance driver attendant, Reserve Deputy Marshal in my home town... Did the Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader thing when my sons were that age... most recently as Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector for a couple of small Fire Depts... the list goes on... and also includes many of the things listed in the Major's calendar.

I have volunteered at my local district public library for the last 10 years. I was elected to the Library Board of Trustees for two consecutive two year terms the last two as the Treasurer.
I did not seek a third term. Because I believe strongly in term limits.
you have to practice what you preach
