Dare to dream...but let's face it Golf courses are imperative to conduct business on. The civilian sector has been doing business on the links for years.

They shut down the Auto Hobby Shop here at Peterson "To save money". Sucks for the enlisted troops who now have to pay for maintenance and, like me, learned how to keep an old (affordable") car running indefinitely working on old beaters there. However, they left the frame shop open (officer's wives like it), and the golf course is off-limits. Really. Why should the taxpayer subsidize golf courses when the civilian sector pays "to do business" on them.

The Air Force figured it out years ago. The Golf Course is an "emergency runway" and hence a necessary function on the base. The emergency klaxon is located at the club. The grounds are clear of trees and other debris which make it perfect for ditching a plane. Generally speaking when following the navigation beacon towards an air base, you will see the golf course or the runway by the time you see the beacon. The USAF figured this out.

If we cut down on golf courses, how would the Air Force get their PT sessions in? :)
