How can we educate all our military servicemen/women and retirees of all branches to safeguard social media personal information being used by hackers and spam; also asking for money for causes such as breast cancer, wounded warrior etc.

I think the first step would be to get them to take the education seriously... We provide enough education, and can add more and more, but until that education and training is taken seriously, the issues we see referencing social media will continue. Lets face it, we have a lot of boneheads in our military...

Not much more we can do for the SMs. They all get the briefings and classes about OPSEC. They just need to take them more seriously and adhere to what is being said.

It is a very real concern. It goes father than just social engineering and scams. The ability to infer and aggregate information should be a serious security concern. I always remember the safety briefs about changing routines and observing your surroundings. Social media should be at the top of that brief.
