Third parties are irrelevant. Consider the Peace and Freedom, Libertarian, Green, and other third parties. The Tea Party isn't really a political party. It was merely the name adopted by a popular movement that has largely vented its spleen like a wave striking a sea wall. Attempts to keep it alive or constitute it as a political party are sputtering at best. Ultimately, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party have morphed into subclasses of one separated only by their degree of progressiveness. Classical liberals and conservatives have been left without representation. It appears that the Left has firmly usurped leadership of the Democratic party disguising themselves as "liberals" but, in fact, they have no love of liberty. The GOP is floundering as its leadership loses touch with its base. I fully expect the Democratic leadership to continue its relentless march until they are confident that they self-proclaim as socialists and the Republican Party to be taken over by new leadership that will self-proclaim as the anti-socialists. Then let the fun begin...

I truly hope not, I would rather see the main Republican party move a bit back to the right and the tea party move a touch left...

To counter the current political leftist .... I don't think the tea party should need any touch of left. Maybe at the negotiation table, but not in this phase. If the tea party movement show any sign of leftist movement ... it will die off fast. Why? who need Tea party to be left anyway, there is already Dem, aren't the Dem left enough already?

The way I see it is that both the left and right have got their extreme factions, the right has the tea party but the left has gone unnamed. I don't want to see any extreme take power.

Considering the left has a presidential nominee openly declaring himself a socialist they now officially have a name. Most rightist/libertarians have the end goal of moving the republican mainstream to the right.
