I am glad to learn that Governor Scott Walker issued an executive proclamation to honor the Wisconsin Firefighters by establishing today as Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day
"Relating to a Proclamation that the Flag of the United States and the
Flag of the State of Wisconsin Be Flown at Half-Staff as a Mark of Respect for the
Firefighters of this State Who Have Given Their Lives in the Line of Duty
WHEREAS, the Legislature has designated the week during which October 9 falls
as Fire Prevention Week and the Saturday at the end of that week as Wisconsin Firefighters
Memorial Day; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week began October 4, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day is October 10, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day is an opportunity for the people
of Wisconsin to remember and pay respect to the many courageous firefighters who have
made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, it is important that we honor the thousands of full-time and volunteer
firefighters who proudly demonstrate courage, determination, and professionalism across
Wisconsin today and every day, putting their own safety at risk to protect their neighbors
from harm; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, SCOTT WALKER, Governor of the State of Wisconsin,
by the authority vested in me by federal and state law, do hereby order that the flag of the
United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin be flown at half-staff at all buildings,
grounds, and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags,
beginning at sunrise on Saturday, October 10, 2015, and ending at sunset on that date. "
