I am a proud Rottweiler owner and believe breed specific
legislation is purely based on ignorance. Everyone is entitled to their own
opinions and I am curious to see what other military members think. I
believe the dog owners should be held responsible, not the dogs. Every dog
should have to pass an obedience test regardless of breed to be allowed on
post. Alright, fire away!

The worst dogs are the little ankle biters that are not on any single list I've ever seen. I have an English Bulldog and have never seen a list wiht them on it either so I should be good to go. But I do feel that regardless of breed, agression can and does exist, thus every dog should have to be tested if they want to place restrictions on any.

Agreed SFC. My rottie got bit on two separate occasions at a off
lease dog park. Both times was by a smaller dog and both times she ran to me whining
and looking for affection. It is all in how you raise them.

Dachsunds bight/attack more people than rottweilers every year but they are deemed OK because those attacks don't usually result in catastrophic injuries.

That's because people look at Dachshunds and think "Oh how cute! I want it to sit in my lap and travel in my purse!" They forget that Dachshunds are working dogs originally bred to chase down rabbits and other burrowing animals. They have a very high prey drive and are also very protective of their human pack. Because of these traits they are absolutely fearless.
I grew up around miniature Dachshunds and can tell when one hasn't been properly trained, doesn't get enough exercise, and hasn't been socialized. They are great dogs but they're not "babies" and people really need to learn about them before they get one.

PO1 John Miller I think most people need to do research on dogs before they get one no matter what it is. Most people go into a pet store and buy something because it is so cute but they don't realize how much work the animal is. All dogs regardless of size need training and enough exercise.

That is for damn sure SSgt Gregory Guina . People see these toy-sized dogs and think their needs will be simple. WRONG!
