Diversity is the strength of our Air Force. How have you promoted it? It's time we share this valuable knowledge with each other!

I just got the letter from SecDef Carter about promoting diversity and providing support to Lean in Circles. I'm not buying into this whole "we need more diversity" program. Diversity has never provided anything more than diversity itself. Somehow people got into their minds that diversity increases productivity, competency, excellence, or something. Creativity comes out of exercised minds...not because your skin tone is different or because what sex you are or anything else we like to classify people on through demographics. Let's get our eyes back on the goal rather than focusing on being this ever changing mantra called political correctness.

CMSgt John Momaney - Diversity doesn't mean squat if you can't meet the same standards as required for everyone else. Both mental and physical.

You missed the hole point Captain with a text book answer. You need to talk with Air Force service men and woman who were effected. Race was known and impacted promotions. You need to sit down with those how lived through it and learn from then. It is easy for you to string sentences together that appear complex and full of ideology that explains nothing. Talk to some WWII, Korean War or Nam Vets and relive history with them. I wished I could have served with you. I would have straighter you out real quick. I ate Csptains for breakfast. Have a nice day Capy Leiby.

No one here is saying that discrimination did not happen in the past. In fact, discrimination unfortunately still persists today. However, what many people are agreeing on is that a focus on promoting diversity is not the solution toward strengthening the Air Force. Rarely is anything strengthened through focusing on disparity; strength comes from unity. I could focus on the fact that you were enlisted and I’m an officer…or that you are retired and I’m active. However, that focus would just create a further divide toward coming to a solution. Instead of look at our diversity, we should instead understand that we are diverse and focus on what brings us together…the fact that we both have served in the defense of this great nation. Through that banner of unity and others like it, we will strengthen the Air Force.

Well I am about 70 years old and my vision is not what it use to be and my fingers do not always hit the right keys. So yes my spelling may contain mistakes since I never review my post for typo's. I guess that is why guys like you are around. Thanks for the info and please continue to correct my spelling Lord knows I need a sergeant as a Administrative Clerk.

We don't. we hire those that apply and meet the qualifications, regardless of race, color, creed or sex. They have no bearing.

I clicked on this question for this comment. We are one military regardless of color, sex, nationality.

I always did, do a good job and work your butt off or I would diversify your butt right out the door and I didn't care what age, sex, race, or religion you were. If you are a good NCO focus on your people and the job, quite being a hand wringing liberal and worrying about diversity. I never saw black, women or other religions, I saw airmen who needed to be trained and mentored; end of story.
