I am from the NY/NJ area and have plans to apply for and join the fire department of New York. If anyone knows someone who is in it or has any tips for making the process as smooth and as successful as possible, please help out.

Back door it through Fdny ems or nypd. I'm in the current hiring process on stand by for CPAT. Next hiring you will need to reapply if you don't get picked this time through is June 2017. Another thing is vet preference is important and you need a 100 on the test or above to be competitive. I got a 93 and I'm 18,111. Back door it in through ems and you stand a better chance. Good luck Semper Fi

LCpl Christopoulos,

All fire stations here on LI, have volunteer slots all day, that would be the fastest way I am told, as their FT slots there is a waiting list months long.

Is it possible to be on the waiting list for the FDNY while on the volunteer fire department of Lond Island?
