My reenlistment window opened up, but I am already on PCS orders to California. I am currently dual military, but I have asked to reenlist for Hawaii if there are slots available. I am being told that's not possible and I have to stay in California. Could someone better explain because I have no understanding to this?

The problem is that you're already on orders. Simply reenlisting usually doesn't change that. You could decline those orders, but that wouldn't help because then you'd be barred from reenlisting. Is your spouse on orders for CA as well? If so, that is another reason. They'd have to find spots for both of you in HI. Have you spoken with your branch manager at all?

I'm no career counselor so take what I say with a grain of salt... but I think if you have any shot at changing your assignments, contact your branch managers and talk to them about the situation. Just keep in mind that his duty position availability will be in play as well. Good luck!

What SSG said. I know on my side, once you have hard orders in hand, there's no changing them unless they get modded for you. Which happens fairly frequently and is never fun because you have absolutely no say and they can be extremely last minute mod's, as in days to weeks at best before you PCS. The reenlistment makes no difference unless you say "i'm getting out" then they cancel the orders, obviously. Be happy they're moving your spouse to at least the same state.

Just wanted an update on your situation back in 2015. I'm in a similar situation now and wanted to know what happened to you?
