Verse One:

"From the halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli’ ,

We fight our countrys battles In the air’, on land, and sea.

First to fight for right and freedom , And to keep our honor clean,

We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marines."

Verse Two:

"Our flags unfurl’d to every breeze From dawn to setting sun’;

We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun.

In the snow of far-off northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes,

You will find us always on the job - The United States Marines."

Verse Three:

"Here’s health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve;

In many a strife we’ve fought for life And never lost our nerve.

If the Army and the Navy Ever gaze on Heaven’s scenes,

They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines."

SEMPER FI everyone and always remember, "Once a Marine-Always a Marine"

Yes...yes I did know that. During the first phase of boot camp, we sang it every night....but were only allowed to sing the first verse. During the second phase we had earned the right to sing the first two. It was a big deal when we reached the third phase and could sing all three.

Sgt David G Duchesneau We were allowed to sing all three in the gas chamber, after masks off, before being permitted to leave....................... Wow that really sounded civilized, given that it was a genuine clusterfuck experience.

I know exactly what you mean Dennis. We sang that Hymn until we couldn't breath at all! What a bunch of sadistic bastards!

Never did ask my DI why @ Edson we better not say the word "gun" when it was in the Hymn. Guess Roget's couldn't find a rhyme word meaning "sun" that matched "rifle"....

Yes, but I imagine most Marines knew it.

As a Dog faced Soldier even i knew that. What surprises many people is when a singer goes into the second, third, and fourth verse of the Star Spangled Banner.
