In the United States Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force, "Major (MAJ) is a field grade military officer rank above the rank of Captain (CPT) and below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (LTC). At this grade, an officer can expect to serve as a primary Staff Officer for a brigade and/or task force command regarding personnel, logistical and operational missions.
