Show on the Airborne & Ranger Training Brigade website they posted the data of those that went to Ranger of the past few years. A lot of the data there surprised me. There is what surprised me.
1. There were only 1476 grads in FY16. That doesn't seem like many with how many infantry units there are in the Army. I have heard how Ranger Qualified soldiers in the Army are becoming more scarce.
2. Then National Guard has the highest success rate of conventional units.
3. PFC's have the highest success rate. (If you don't include E9 and O5)
Some of these were a bit of a surprise. how do you interpret the data they published?

I loved it so much I broke my foot just so I could go a second time and get frostbite. But the tab as a Winter Ranger is one of my most treasured possessions. Over 30 years later I still look at it and hope it is not a dream.

I was a winter Ranger. I did mountains twice. The snow wasn't better the second time.

My thoughts when I see someone with a Ranger tab: They're more hardcore than I will ever be.

I'm curious about the failure rate from IBOLC. When I went through the old IOBC during the buildup of all the Light Units, the PT and much of the training was focused on getting everyone prepared for Ranger School, even though only those going to a light fighter unit could get a slot at the time. They even put all the students through the non assessment phase of RIP, or RASP in today's Army. I wonder if that is just passing without a recycle?

TSgt (Join to see) - Many officers are allowed to attend Ranger school regardless of their career field. The same applies to airborne/air assault school, They need to be decked out whether they use it or not.

TSgt (Join to see) - There was actually an Army Dentist in my class. Goofy guy, but I seem to remember he did tab out.

TSgt (Join to see) - I don’t know for sure if he was the one you saw, but Ranger Jeff Struecker, from Somalia / Black Hawk Down fame, went on to become a Chaplain and now pastors a church in Columbus, GA. I had the privilege of meeting him at a book signing several years back.
