What can I expect while going through a medical board

I am an E-5 in the USCG and have been in for 9 years. I recently had a implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) placed in my chest. I was curious if anyone knows the process or wait time of the board itself. Is there anything I can do to get more of a disability? Can I still advance while going through a board? I am also due to PCS 2015, can I do that? I am on USCGC Boutwell and going to be at Sector San Diego to wait out this board. I would appreciate any help if anyone has any. Thank you.
