SPC Kevin Ford - in the age of medical malpractice you can not hide things for long. Or Nurses, Anesthesia providers, OR techs , pathology etc need to be on board to make it happen. In the past stuff like this could fly. Not today. When we get in the OR the whole staff then lays out the patient, the procedure, the permitting etc.

LTC David Brown - You are assuming a normal public hospital environment, that's not what this is. To be clear we have evidence in the US of entire staffs of people engaged in improper conduct. To think it can't happen anymore due to some procedures in place is a complete disregard of human nature and how we behave in groups. It's exactly the type of thinking you are displaying, that the procedures currently in place are a cure for a problem, that causes disregard of problems and stops continuous improvement in an organization.

Granted, normally we will always have someone that doesn't go along, but that appears to be what we have here.

SPC Kevin Ford - Out side Augusta Georgia there exists the state medical prison. For years the state could not adequately fund it to utilize the OR. The hospital I was at had the contract to provide surgical care to the prisoner patients. Augusta is second largest metro area in Georgia. Got any idea what Tooms county is like? We are talking rural Georgia. Farms and logging. I do have some knowledge about that area of the country, my daughter teaches in Moultrie Ga and I moon lighted down there. . I doubt the ICE facility is set up to preform major surgery so the patients are transported to the local hospital. You have no idea how hard it is to get medical personnel to staff ORs. In rural areas it really sucks. The medical facility I retired from has about 75% locum tenums staff ( travelers, temporary staffing). In Order to staff an OR you need facilities, equipment, personnel to include those that clean, wrap and sterile equipment etc. How many operations you think they do a week? 10, 20? So the hospital etc are risking it all? This simply isn’t happening.

LTC David Brown - You don't want to believe it is happening, but you have no idea if it is or not. Your reasoning for not believing it isn't congruent with history nor our understanding of human nature.

To be clear, I'm not saying it is happening either.

Things like the experimentation on black cancer patients without their consent happened in our lifetimes. Nothing has magically changed between now and then. People knew it was wrong then too. Given a large enough population you are going to find groups of people willing to do all sorts of evil things.

SPC David S. There is a possibility it is all completely legitimate. As you say, we have a whistleblower, they credibly could have witnessed the conduct they say they did, so we hold off judgement one way or the other and investigate.

SSgt Richard Kensinger We don't even have to leave the domain of US history to find them. I suspect this is going to be one of those eras that we will collectively look back on in shame. Well, at least those of us with ethics will.
