I have a friend declining with ALS and despite all the publicity raised by the ice bucket challenge, very little money goes to help the families. It is so discouraging to watch the battles this couple face as they try to find help. The biggest chunk goes to research. From the same family of diseases but with less publicity:

I remember I was tagged in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Instead of dunking ice, I just decided to donate.

Thank you for following through. In some of the literature I've read, many that promised to donate didn't bother after all of the hub bub died down. But this did raise awareness and did result in a large sum of money for research, necessary to find treatments that work and to understand the mechanism of the disease, we cannot cure what we can't understand.

Thanks for sharing SSgt (Join to see) my first thought was Lou Gehrig's disease which is crippling disease that can lead to early death. After looking at the linked article I believe I am correct.
"amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord."

Caught my friend in its web and it was nice finding Floyd on an ALS-board and just in time. We kindled our friendship and hats off to this wife, Bim and daughter 'Wendy'. LTC Stephen F.
