Interesting read, many of those things I do, but a few others I will contemplate. One thing I won’t change is my credit card is in my wallet, I remove it outside the vehicle and replace it in my wallet before I start pumping gas. The main reason is my weapons carry license is in my wallet, thus on my person.

Well... To engage someone with the intent to kill, you either have to be psychopathic, intending to hurt others for your own gain OR... have to be someone who resists to protect the things you hold dear - family, friends, community, country and your way of life. That's basis of all societal shootings, Criminal or Protector.
I consider that the 'afterthought' of an engagement as it really comes down to kill or be killed. As for the 'Mindset' you asked about?
I can react to a threat immediately, because I have been trained. I have a rigorous, immediately available, regimented actions that I take out-of-the-box in reaction to any perceived threat complete with levels of reaction..
Example#1 - Low threat: Attempt to de-escalate the threat, by reducing the tension for violence. There are several ways in this preferred order; remove people from the vicinity, talk the person down, remove the means of injury, incapacitate the person, capture the person, remove the person to the appropriate authority's containment/facility.
Example#2 - Medium threat: Evaluate the area of all persons not used to engage the threat, for all non-combatants you cannot remove safeguard them. Engage the threat either by de-escalation OR force-escalation to the extent that reduces the threat to zero.
Example#3 - Eliminate the threat with prejudice by the quickest, most effective means available.
.
That being said, without your using the abilities and techniques you are taught (regardless of your capabilities) to eliminate the threat, all the training in the world will not allow you to protect yourself and the ones you prize.
That's Mindset. It has to be renewed everyday.
