My father ended the war in Trieste Italy. Because of the turmoil there, they temporally raised the required points. He stayed there until September 1945. He finally returned home on what he called a "garbage scow." Never got a full explanation on that. But he also said he did not care as long as it got him home. He got discharged on 30 September, 1945.
